Nine year-old Louis is sent to Brittany to spend the summer with his mother's friend and her husband. The couple are childless, having lost their child at birth years earlier, and a war begins between them over the boy's affections. Soon however, Louis finds refuge in a friendship with ten year-old Martine who lives next door.
