040403 LEO BURNETT AND THE GPC - At first glance, 'The Global Product Committee' might seem like a giant ego massage. Not so, says Uncle Leo, and the numbers prove it. In fact, numbers are what the GPC is all about. Created in Chicago 14 years ago, the GPC is a quarterly meeting of senior executives, creative and managing directors, planners, account directors and television producers. Over 1,000 pieces of work, sent in from 90 offices worldwide, gets rated on a scale from 1 to 10. (1 = 'appalling', 10 = 'best in the world, bar none') The results are given back to the agencies along with suggestions on how to make the work a 7+. And here's the last bit of numbers: 7+ work is 45% more likely to achieve business objectives. Agency creatives claim that worldwide cultural differences are preserved, it's just the quality of work that improves.
